Meet Tom Terez

Tom TerezTom Terez was one of the first people doing serious research on employee engagement. He went straight to the source, interviewing hundreds of people from all walks of life. This led to his book (22 Keys to Creating a Meaningful Workplace), his early Web presence beginning in 1999, and the launch of Tom Terez Workplace Solutions Inc. in 2001.

TOOLS: Tom is the developer of the 5-Minute Assessment series, the Workplace Improvement Kit, the 22 Keys Workplace Assessment, the Working Smart Assessment, the Workplace Survival Guide, the Power With white paper, the Awesome & Awful Boss Hall of Fame, and the Difficult Dozen Help Zone — and more is in development.

Workplace Survival GuideWRITINGS: Over the past two decades, Tom has written hundreds of articles on engagement, change, teamwork, and potential. Many of his most recent writings are posted to this site. His Better Workplace Now e-letter, first published in 2003, has subscribers from 126 countries.

CLIENTS: Tom has led conference keynotes, workplace presentations, in-house workshops, and breakthrough planning sessions for private-sector companies (Boeing, Siemens, Fidelity, Sigma-Aldrich, Providence Health System, Jacobs Technology, Cleveland Clinic, Blue Cross, and many others), for government agencies (FBI, DOE, IRS, SSA, ACF, 16 state governments, major counties and cities, etc.), for higher education (Northern Arizona University, Duke University, University of Missouri, CUPA, and more), and for associations (including SHRM, ASQ, ISPI, AASCIF, ASTD, and others).

PERSONAL: Tom lives in Columbus, Ohio, with his wife, two daughters, one dog, and an above-average amount of chaos. He likes to bike, run, and play Ultimate Frisbee, though not at the same time. He often starts the day by playing his vintage Hohner accordion — which makes it a miracle he has been married for 21 years.
